BODY TRACKING / POINTCLOUD CAPTURE

At Spatial Fest 2022, cutting-edge techniques like body tracking and pointcloud technology played a pivotal role in shaping immersive, real-time visual narratives. Utilizing Neuron Mocap for body tracking and Kinect Azure for dual-camera pointcloud captures, the festival brought a new dimension to live performances. These advanced technologies allowed for the seamless integration of human movement and 3D spatial data, transforming the visual experience into a dynamic, interactive canvas where each motion generated stunning, real-time volumetric visuals that responded fluidly to the performers’ actions.

“A historic moment in volumetric and spatial audiovisual storytelling. LA LUZ combined cutting-edge display technologies with live, reactive sound to craft an unforgettable immersive experience.”

MULTISENSORIAL INMERSIVE INSTALLATION

LA LUZ was a groundbreaking performance combining volumetric display technology with spatial sound systems to create an immersive kinetic experience. This project, showcased during the Spatial Fest at MONOM, Berlin, marked the first time a fully integrated 3D volumetric art piece was presented using LED volumetric screens paired with the 4DSOUND system.

Led by a collaboration between Kiani del Valle, Ledpulse, MONOM, and The NODE Institute, this performance pushed the boundaries of real-time audiovisual storytelling, merging interactive visuals captured through body-tracking systems and spatial soundscapes to immerse audiences in a completely new sensory experience.

One of the festival’s highlight moments was the performance of LA LUZ, where for the first time, a full 3D artistic piece was broadcasted with volumetric screens and spatial sound using the 4DSOUND system. This immersive audiovisual set-up captivated the audience, earning widespread acclaim.

Verum Tempus played a crucial role in the development and technical implementation of the volumetric display system for LA LUZ. As the project director and developer for Ledpulse, Juan Barrera was responsible for the installation and integration of the DragonO2 volumetric display system, working closely with Kiani del Valle and Stefan Kraus to synchronize the visual experience using body-tracking technology. Collaborating with The NODE Institute, Verum Tempus ensured the real-time programming of the 3D visuals, capturing motion data via Kinect Azure and processing it for seamless integration with the spatial sound system.

During the installation phase, Jesús Ortega, who was interning at MONOM, assisted the technical team in setting up the volumetric display hardware, as well as configuring and calibrating the lighting and sound systems. His involvement also extended to the optimization of the 4DSOUND setup, working in tandem with MONOM’s technical staff to ensure that the spatial sound system was perfectly aligned with the visual elements of the piece. Ortega’s responsibilities also included supporting the final installation and overseeing the tear-down after the performance, as part of his intern duties.

Through this collaboration, Verum Tempus showcased its expertise in integrating cutting-edge audiovisual technologies with a strong focus on real-time performance, solidifying its position as a key player in immersive digital art.
