At the Volvo Art Session 2023, Ledpulse unveiled Coexist, a revolutionary installation that redefined the Dragon O system as a fully immersive and interactive experience. This piece harmonized advanced audiovisual technology with audience collaboration, creating a dynamic and engaging journey where the public became an integral part of the artwork.

A Multisensory Interactive Experience

COEXIST

Coexist transcended traditional art installations by transforming visitors from passive observers into active participants. By solving the interactive puzzle, the audience not only unlocked the final spectacle but also shaped the evolving audiovisual environment. The installation stood as a testament to the power of collaboration, innovation, and the fusion of art and technology.

Design and Configuration

The installation incorporated 36 Dragon O modules arranged in a pyramidal organic configuration: 9 modules formed a central totem, the tallest structure in the piece. The remaining 27 modules encircled the totem in three concentric levels, decreasing in height from the center outward. This layout allowed audiences to physically step into and interact with the installation, fostering an intimate connection with the artwork.

The Two Phases of Interaction

Standby Mode: Pre-programmed audiovisual shows captivated onlookers during this phase, showcasing the beauty and complexity of the piece while withholding direct interactivity.

Interactive Mode: Leveraging LiDAR technology, the installation tracked participants’ movements in real time. Visitors collaborated to solve a light and sound puzzle, triggering progressive changes in the visuals and soundscapes. The culmination was a breathtaking audiovisual finale, unlocked only through collective effort.

The sound design, created by Jesús Ortega, was crafted in Ableton Live using a combination of synthesizers, digital instruments, and plugins. The soundscapes evolved in real time, reacting to the LiDAR tracking data and the generated visuals. This seamless integration of audio and visuals deepened the immersive nature of the installation, making every participant’s interaction uniquely impactful.
